The Brezovica ski-resort, a well-known tourist center on the northwestern side of Sar mountain (Strpce municipality), is a unique sports and recreation complex at an altitude of 900 to 2,500 meters above sea level. It is about 60 km from Pristina and similar distance from Skopje airport, 303 km from Thessaloniki, 355 km from Sofia and 400 km from Belgrade. With its distinctly alpine nature and high-altitude ambience, the immediate surroundings of Brezovica are reminiscent of the most famous European tourist centers.
Century-old forests, lush meadows and endless pastures are full of mountain flowers, medicinal herbs, and rare game species. In the highest parts, there is a real alpine climate, so that the snow stays for up to 280 days. It is not a rare case that all four seasons can be experienced in one and the same day, and even during July and August the highest parts of Sar mountain are covered with snow. Favorable climatic conditions represent an ideal environment for winter, sports and recreational tourism, so there are visitors throughout the year.
Ski center Brezovica has so far organized 2 European championships in alpine skiing, 9 national championships, every year (until 1999) in the calendar of the FIS there was a race in downhill and giant slalom for men called "Inex - ski cup" and annually achieved an average of over 103,000 overnight stays in all facilities of the Ski Center Brezovica and an average of 13,000 overnight stays in other rented facilities, primarily in the "Retirement Home" - now the "Junior" hotel in Brezovica.
A few tips when visiting Brezovica ski-resort:
- Ski-lifts and cable-cars are usually open from 9am until 3:30pm (depending on the weather)
- If you are visiting on weekend or public holiday by car make sure to arrive early in order to avoid crowds and traffic jam
- Ski pass can be only purchased on-site on authorized kiosks
